IORT
Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT) is a new treatment method that helps the patient in the progression of the treatment process. This method is successfully executable in the east of Iran since Intraoperative Radiation Therapy with open eyes is done in a spot where there is or might be a tumor and the ray aims at the intended spot; therefore, its effectiveness is more than the time when the radiotherapy is done externally with closed eyes. In this method, the patient is being treated by radiotherapy while surgery and after removing the tumor. In this case, the target tissue is put directly in front of ionizing radiation and the least radiation is transferred to the healthy side tissues; that is why this method is known as Precise Radiotherapy. Being an integration of surgery and radiation therapy, this method is among special radiotherapy methods in which a high amount of rays (10 to 20 Gray) is distributed in the tumor or its bed while surgery. In short, IORT is used as an advanced method in managing the treatment of many tumor beds.
