The Use of qualitative models like EFQM, ISO, JCI, Clinical Governance, BSM, and National Accreditation over the years has led to the qualitative and quantitative advancement of the specialty services of this organization.

Shahid Hasheminejad Kidney Center (HKC) is one of the most well-renowned medical centers throughout the country, distinct for being the only center fully dedicated to the fields of urology and nephrology in the capital Tehran, with 250 beds in active service.

About Shahid Hasheminejad Hospital

HKC placed its name in Iran's history of medicine, as the first hospital to establish a regular program for renal transplantation in this country in 1983. Ever since HKC has kept its position at the forefront of advances in the field. Apart from logging close to 2000 transplantations with graft survival data well above the national average, HKC has maintained a well-established training program yielding successive generations of urologists internists, nephrologists, and radiologists, and subspecialty courses thereof. Presently HKC holds the most comprehensive of advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities related to treating ailments of the urinary system.

  • 1957: Founded at the heart of northern Tehran

  • 1983: Affiliated to Iran University of medical science and dedicated to urinary disease

  • 1983: Established the country's first and longest running regular program of renal transplantation

  • since 1980: Houses the first and largest yet, hemodialysis center in Iran with 30 dialysis machines operating round the clock

  • 1991: Established the country's first color Doppler sonography unit, and is designated as the national postgraduate training center for this diagnostic modality

  • 2002: One of the first transplant centers to begin laparoscopic kidney retrieval from live donors

  • 2004: Establishing the first multi-slice spiral CT scan unit in Iran

  • 2004: Inauguration of the country's first interventional radiology unit fully committed to and equipped for peripheral vascular intervention including selective renal vascular angioplasty and stenting

  • 2004: Inauguration of the first private care ward within HKC (First of its kind in any academic hospital in Iran)

  • 2004: Dr. Pejman Shadpour, member of the HKC Faculty received second prize at the American Urological Association annual congress (AUA 2004) San Francisco, USA.

  • 2006: First ever live telecast at surgical procedures in Iran from the HKC operating theaters at the biannual Iranian Endourology Congress.

  • 2006: Inauguration of the first dedicated endourology ward in Iran at HKC.

  • 2008: HKC picked and designated as the regional training center for Olympus endo-surgery in the Middle East.

Hasheminejad Kidney center (HKC) Patients’ Bill of Rights:

  1. Patient has the right to expect prompt and appropriate care and treatment with dignity and respect, regardless to his/her religious, cultural and racial background, from medical staff.

  2. Patient has the right to know the full identity and professional status of both ward staff and other staff providing services, care and treatment.

  3. Patient has the right to get information about diagnosis, treatment and all aspects of his/her progressive medical condition, as long as it does not delay the treatment or put patient’s life in danger in medical emergency.

  4. Patient has the right to be fully informed of all reasons; benefits and risks involved in any proposed treatment according to his/her knowledge before examination, treatment, and participate in making final decision.

  5. Patient has the right to give consent freely to finish his/her treatment and/or go to another medical centers based on law principles without any external pressure or coercion, unless it is mandated by some legal reason.

  6. Patient has the right to be assured of his/her information personal privacy and Confidentiality of medical and health document and other information gathered from patients by health providers. Unless medical staff are asked by authorities to give away patient’s information.

  7. Patient has the right to confidentiality of his/her information by medical staff. Therefore, patient’s permission must be obtained if people, not involved in patient’s treatment process, should attend his/her bedside.

  8. Patient has the right to be assured to access to physicians and other medical staff during treatment, transmission and after discharge.

  9. Patient has the right to be informed of all the educational activities and researches carried away in the hospital which affect his/her health and treatment. she/he has the right to agree or refuse to be involved in those activities.

  10. Patient has the right to be fully informed of qualifications of medical staff, tariffs and insurance coverage before being transferred to a new medical center.
