Digestive Diseases Research Institute
(DDRI) is located in Shariati Hospital and affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences. The history of the institute’s establishment dates back to 1993 when it began its activities as the first research center for digestive and liver diseases in Iran: “Digestive Diseases Research Center”. One of the most important treatment services offered by Shariati Hospital is the provision of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services, as well as the education and training of gastroenterology subspecialties on the topics of choledocholithiasis, and pancreatic and bile duct cancers. Diagnosis with Endosonography and Endoscopic ultrasound and treatment with Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography are among the most important services offered by the Institute. Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) is an innovative, minimally invasive endoscopic procedure performed in the endoscopy department at our hospital. Our specialist uses high-definition upper endoscopes to perform the procedure. POEM takes approximately two to three hours, and patients are expected to stay in our hospital for an average of two days for monitoring and other services.
Research Center for Nuclear Medicine
(RCNM) as the first nuclear medicine center in the country was founded in 1967 with a focus on educational, research, diagnostic, and therapeutic goals in the field of nuclear medicine. Since 1981, after the establishment of the first nuclear medicine education department in the country, the residency program started in 1983, and more than 75% of the nuclear physicians, who are now working in 200 nuclear medicine centers throughout the country, have completed their nuclear medicine residency program in this center. The provided nuclear medicine procedures in this center can be divided into three main categories and include; diagnostic imaging procedures (SPECT-CT, PET-CT, and MIBG Scan), in vitro and laboratory studies, and the therapeutic interventions that are performed in the treatment ward. The treatment ward of this center is the largest center for radio-iodine treatment of patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma in the country and performs more than 75% of such treatments in the country. Other therapy services of the department include 177Lu-PSMA, 177Lu-DOTATATE, and 131I-MIBG therapy.
