Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Division
The laboratory is an integral component of a healthcare system. Indeed, 70% of all clinical decisions are believed to be made based on laboratory tests, the goal of which is to assist in diagnosis, confirm the diagnosis, or determine the prognosis of a disease.
The Laboratory of Tehran Heart Center, consisting of clinical and pathology labs and boasting well-trained personnel and state-of-the-art equipment, seeks to render round-the-clock, prompt services to patients referring to the center from across the country.
The Laboratory of Tehran Heart Center draws upon the highest domestic and international standards in its quality control process of all test stages, as attested to by the Quality Certificate awarded to the center by the Health Reference Laboratory of the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education. The rising trend in the quality and quantity of services in our laboratory continues apace: The Molecular Pathology and Cellular-Molecular Techniques Department has become fully operational in recent years and a considerable number of basic science and clinical research projects have been conducted in collaboration with various other Iranian and international centers.
The Laboratory of Tehran Heart Center renders the following services (average per annum):

- Cardiac markers 120,000 tests
- Coagulation 170,000 tests
- Hematology and Blood bank 104,000 tests
- Microbiology 34,000 tests
- ABG 52,000 tests
- Hormonology 22,000 tests
- Immunology/Serology 48,000 tests
- Pathology/Cytology 3,000 tests
Pharmacies
The procurement, medicine dispensation, and disposable medical equipment units of the pharmacy offer their services in a network of pharmacies in a non-centralized manner. This network is comprised of the following:
- Central Pharmacy, covering the inpatient departments,
- Operating Theater Pharmacy, covering the operating rooms and ICU-OH,
- Angiography department Pharmacy, covering the various units of this department,
- Emergency department Pharmacy, covering this department 24 hours a day, and
- Outpatient Department, covering the needs of patients referring to the clinics.
All the above-mentioned pharmacies operate separately under the supervision of one single management unit.
Dental Division
Dental care is vital for patients requiring long-term treatment with anti-coagulant and anti-thrombosis drugs due to cardiac valve replacement or drug-eluting stent implantation. This division provides dentistry and consultation services for ambulatory patients and those scheduled for the aforementioned cardiac procedures.
Cardiac Rehabilitation Division
Cardiac rehabilitation (cardiac rehab) is a professionally supervised program to help people recover from heart attacks, heart surgery, and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures such as stenting and angioplasty. Cardiac rehab programs usually provide education and counseling services to help heart patients increase physical fitness. Reduce cardiac symptoms, improve health, and reduce the risk of future heart problems. Including heart attack. Cardiac rehabilitation is the process by which a person who is suffering from ischemic heart disease, or who has had a myocardial infarction (MI), is encouraged to achieve their full potential in terms of physical and psychological support, exercise training, and behavioral change.
Cardiac rehabilitation at Tehran Heart Center starts as soon as you go into the hospital for your angioplasty or surgery. A member of the cardiac rehabilitation team: (physician physiotherapist nurses, psychologist, nutritionist).
24-session monitoring exercises (treadmill, bike & arm ergometry) and nonmonitoring (aerobic & strengthening exercises & physical therapy) you should also be invited to join a cardiac rehabilitation program starting about 3 or 4 weeks after you leave the hospital.
Central Sterilization Room (CSR)
This division covers an area of about 1,000 square meters and comprises washing, packing, and sterile rooms providing all washing, desiccation, packing, and sterilization services for the surgical rooms as well as the angiography and clinical wards. There are 4 autoclave apparatuses, some washing machines equipped with an ultrasound system, 2 sterilization machines using ethylene oxide, and packing machines, all of them active around the clock. The division and its experienced personnel are under the continuous supervision of the Nursing Office and Infection Control Committee. Every day, about 2000 kg of patients’ dresses and medical instruments are sterilized and packed in the CSR.
Public Relations
The Public Relations Division is the bridge between the hospital and the outside via state-of-the-art electronic equipment and seeks to attain the long-term goals and policies set by the hospital’s top executives. This vital role encompasses a wide range of activities, including not only receiving the patient's and their companions’ comments, suggestions, and complaints and analyzing them to constantly improve the services rendered but also managing and overseeing the personnel’s welfare affairs and funds as well as sports and cultural activities in the halls, amphitheaters, and sports facilities within the hospital.
Department of Cardiovascular Research
Tehran Heart Center pays special heed to cutting-edge scientific research to that end, The Research Department, enjoying the collaboration of 30 general physicians and specialists and drawing upon an extremely rich databank, carries out an average of 50 empirical and clinical research projects including those on lab animals in the fully equipped operating room of the center Empirical Research Department and presents the results in internationally renowned scientific journals. Tehran Heart Center features a quarterly scientific journal, entitled “Journal of Tehran University Heart Center”, which takes advantage of a highly experienced domestic and international editorial board in its publication of the latest in the realm of cardiovascular diseases. The journal succeeded in attaining a PubMed index in 2011.
