Where are the Sarein hot springs?
The Sarein hot springs are usually at 43 degrees Celsius and contain bicarbonate, calcium, magnesium, and sodium mineral salts. Sarein Springs originate from the northwest mountains of Sabalan. These hot springs have become a popular summertime healing destination for travelers. Geographically, Sarein is located in the west of Ardabil and the center of Ardabil city with a height of 1650 meters above sea level. The Sarein springs are near an inactive volcano in Mount Sabalan, with the water containing Sulphur particles, which are believed to be good for bone and joint pains.
Although these hot springs have always been in Sarein, the 1990s earthquake caused some of them to get colder or hotter. The water is heated largely by the Sabalan mountain which is Iran's second-highest mountain after Damavand. Of the 9 hot springs of Sarein, “Gavmesh Goli” is the hottest, with water reaching 67 degrees, and turning out around 80 liters per second from the source. There are several cold water springs around as well, with the most popular one being located in ‘Vila Dareh’. The fizzy water is very good for the kidneys.
